Is there school on Election Day 2024?

Election Day 2024, which falls on Tuesday, Nov. 5 this year, is a state holiday in New Jersey.
This means that state offices will be closed, and most state employees will have the day off.
Many public school districts in New Jersey will also be closed on Election Day, as some schools are used as polling places. But this can vary by district.
It is best to check with your local municipality to see if schools are open.
Most public school districts in New Jersey are closed on Election Day.
An increasing number of school districts in New Jersey have decided to close schools on Election Day so that school buildings may be used as polling places without the security concerns of having students present. Other districts have decided to relocate polling places to non-school locations over the same concerns.
It is up to the district to decide, however, so parents and guardians should check with their child’s local school to see if it is open or closed.

Like public school districts, private or parochial schools have their own school calendars.
It is up to the school, in case of individually run private or parochial schools, to decide whether to use Election Day as part of a school break just like public school districts do. Parents and guardians should check with their child’s local school to see if it is open or closed.
